I learnt something very important this week. As a lone ranger (running Townlife Monthly by myself at the moment) I have to send out lots of letters and newsletters which means I print loads and I suppose like any other business, I have to buy Toners all the time for my Lexmark Printer. So you can imagine my sheer joy, when I looked in the July issue of our Sky magazine and out popped a flyer advertising really cheap Toners... To illustrate how cheap, my monthly expenditure on Toner is anywhere between £35 and £50... This flyer was saying I could get the toner for at least 35% off my current spend. So I thought, what the heck, I'll give it a try and it might be worth it in the long run... WOW!
On Friday I received my Toner and off to my PC I went, to test out my new discovery. You can imagine the horror I felt when I saw the colour on the paper as it emerged from the printer. It was nothing like my other quality prints and anyone who knows me, will know that I am all about colour (which is why Townlife Monthly is all colour and not partly black and white), and it wasn't like I could call up the company and ask for a refund as the Toner had obviously been used and that's when I experienced my buyers remorse.
So I thought to myself, I'll just have to use this as a valuable lesson. Alarm bells did ring in my head as historically, I've always opted to spend more money getting good quality goods, than seek out bargains that I couldn't really benefit from.
So here's my biggest lesson this week: The cheapest item or service rarely translate into the best quality item or service.
